Local Government Reorganisation

The UK Government has opened a formal consultation inviting businesses, residents, and key stakeholders to share their views on proposed changes to how local government is structured in Warwickshire.
Current governance structure
Warwickshire currently operates a two-tier system consisting of:
- Warwickshire County Council (responsible for services such as education, highways, social care, trading standards)
- Five district and borough councils: North Warwickshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth, Rugby, Stratford-on-Avon, and Warwick (responsible for services like planning, waste, licensing, and housing)
The Government is consulting on two potential future structures:
- A single unitary council for the whole of Warwickshire, or
-
Two separate unitary councils - one covering the north of the county and one covering the south.
How to take part
Businesses across the county are strongly encouraged to share their views.
Consultation period: Thursday 5 February – Thursday 26 March.
