WSMB Edition w/c Apr 20

WARWICKSHIRE MEANS BUSINESS

Welcome from Mark Ryder, WCC strategic director for communities

Welcome again to Warwickshire Still Means Business (WSMB). I hope you are all safe and coping as well as you possibly can in these extraordinary times.

We have increased the frequency of editions of WSMB for now to enable us to pass on new information and guidance about help and support for businesses as it becomes available throughout this fast-moving period. The previous edition of WSMB had huge engagement with you, with the rate of opening and reading stories well up on the usual, already-strong numbers. We hope that the information provided is useful and helps keeps you up to date and, as ever, we welcome your feedback.

Communicating with each other is key to how well we come through this crisis and it is also important that we remember how this situation is bringing the best out of many people. This edition of WSMB includes some uplifting stories about businesses adapting and innovating so that they can continue to operate and serve their communities in these incredibly challenging times.

A fantastic example of this is Mor Bakery, in Stratford, where the business has adapted to support the community, which in turn is supporting the businesss.

The nature of some businesses means that are less able to adapt, of course, so they face a really difficult period. To date, almost £63million in grants has been distributed among nearly 5,000 small businesses across Warwickshire. Colleagues from all local Councils have been working incredibly hard to get this money out as quickly as possible to where it is so desperately needed. It is very pleasing to see that the rate at which these grants are being paid in Warwickshire is well ahead of the national average.

This is a truly testing time for us all but the reaction from so many people in Warwickshire has just proved once again that we have so much to be proud of in this great county. It has just proved the truth in the saying that 'together we are stronger.'

Please do share the link to this edition with colleagues and members of your LinkedIn and other social media groups so that they can receive important updates and share their ideas and practices with us all.

I look forward to seeing you in a fortnight for the next edition. In the meantime, look after yourselves and your loved ones and stay safe.
