A comprehensive study of accommodation across Warwickshire has been commissioned to help the county fully exploit the economic potential of a number of upcoming major events and projects in the region.

Warwickshire County Council, in partnership with the District and Borough Councils, has appointed leading consultants M-Assessment Services to conduct an accommodation study for the county.

The study will review existing supply and demand and create an action plan to encourage development and investment though to 2030.

A number of major events and projects will impact the county over the coming years including the Coventry City of Culture in 2021, the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022, and the development of the HS2 rail project.

The review will determine the levels of visitor accommodation already available in the county. It will focus on the traditional accommodation sector represented by hotels, B&Bs and self-catering and also developing products represented by the home stay sector, led by Airbnb and other operators.

Alex Holmes, Visitor Economy Manager at Warwickshire County Council said “This is an important and necessary review to plan effectively for these major events and also to understand the current demand from both UK and International visitors travelling for both leisure and business.

The report will be delivered by the end of March.
